Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When does the Fall season start?
A. Our player evaluations normally take place in late August with teams formed shortly thereafter.
Q. How long does the season last?
A. Generally, our season starts very close to the start of the school year and will finish before the Thanksgiving holiday break. Exact practice and game schedules will be published following player evaluations.
Q. Does every child get to play?
A. YES. Every eligible athlete will be placed on a team. During the season, we use an equal rotation system that allows every player to play each position an equal amount of time.
Q. Can I register online?
A. Online registration will be opened in the late summer at quickscores.com/hva
Q. What size ball should my child use to practice?
A. We recommend the Volley Lite (Academy Sports or Amazon) ball for kids up until 5th grade. Athletes in 6th through 8th grade should use a full size, indoor volleyball. Popular brands include Tachikara, Baden or Molten.
Q. What equipment/clothing does each athlete need?
A. HVA will provide a game jersey for each athlete. Each child must provide their own athletic shorts, practice shirts (comfortable) and non-marking athletic shoes. Kneepads are strongly recommended, especially for our older athletes.

A. In most circumstances, all teams will have 1 practice for 1 hour per week. In rare circumstances, there may be optional additional training offered by their coaches.

A. Most games during the regular season will be held on Saturday mornings. Games are slotted for 1 hour per match. In rare circumstances, end of season tournament games or makeup games may be held on weekday evenings.
Q. What safety precautions is HVA using during this season?
A. Players, coaches and visitors are strongly encouraged to use hand sanitizer when arriving and leaving any HVA event (practices or games.) Social distancing is recommended. If social distancing is not possible, we ask that all visitors wear a face covering. If any player, coach or attendee is experiencing flu symptoms such as fever, cough, intestinal issues or congestion, they should stay at home until they have been cleared by their physician.
Q. Will the coaches and athletes be required to wear masks during practice or play?
A. No. While we strongly recommend wearing face coverings during entry and exit, we do not require it during practices or games. Players may wear approved face coverings if they wish.
